Skincare should never take a backseat, even when the world is undergoing a pandemic. Am I right or am I right?
The lockdown was a prime time for everyone, thanks to the luxury of time it bestowed upon us. No more “I’d love to do this if only I had the time.” Everybody and their moms created and experimented with multiple things during lockdown – may it be inventing a new recipe, dying and/or cutting hair at home, starting a home-based business, or repairing year-old broken things (thank you, dad).
Amidst these, DIY skincare was one hot topic for content creators and influencers. We finally had all the time and energy in the world to try DIY skincare for the “lockdown glow-up”. But now that the lockdown has ceased (thankfully!), we are still using some DIY skincare that delivered great results. Keep reading to discover your weekend skincare indulgence!
Disclaimer: Not all DIY skincare is good. The ones mentioned here are safe to be used on the skin every once in a while. They do not contain any harmful or skin-irritating ingredients. However, always do a patch test to check for potential reactions.
Double cleansing is a popular method to remove makeup, skincare, and other impurities thoroughly from the skin. The first step of this method usually involves a cleansing oil, which can easily be formulated at home!
All you need is two to three carrier oils of your choice. However, they must be non-comedogenic (unlike coconut oil).
Our favourite recipe goes like this:
Mix both and ta-da! Your skin will thank you a few weeks down the road.
The secret ingredient behind beautiful South-Asian skins – turmeric. It is anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory – the term we usually look out for in our skincare products. Turmeric is excellent to brighten skin, fade acne marks, and heal scars and wounds. The other ingredients used in this DIY turmeric mask are equally beneficial for the skin.
To make a turmeric face pack, you need:
Mix all the ingredients until it forms a smooth paste. Apply and leave on the face for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the mask mostly dries. Gently scrub off and rinse with warm water.
Chances are, you might have known this recipe for years. But have you ever tried it and been consistent with it? This is a great weekly lip scrub+mask to restore your lips’ health.
Things you’ll need:
Combine all the ingredients until it forms a semi-solid mixture. Spread it evenly on your lips and let it sit for 10 mins. Then, scrub it off your lips for 5 mins before rinsing off.
The easiest DIY on the list, and so versatile!
Green tea is another anti-oxidant that is found in many skincare products. It possesses multiple benefits for the skin, especially in treating hyperpigmentation and irritation.
To prepare green tea ice cubes:
Brew green tea as you normally would. Upon cooling, fill them in an ice tray. Rub it on your face once or twice a day to keep you refreshed and glowing!
P.S. Green tea makes an excellent skin toner.
