Skin Care Advice to Live By
It’s 2022, and I’m sure we all know more about skin care than we used to a few years ago. Thank You, internet. Still, a reminder hurts no one.
It is easy to get intimidated by the rising skin care trends and treatments. Not to forget the hundreds of products in the market to choose from. The variety of skin care and their extraordinary promises can trick us into over-spending and over-experimenting with skincare more often than advised. In the chase for the latest skincare trend, we may lose sight of the basics.
Therefore, we present you a list of skin care advice to live by – a guide that acts as a reminder that skincare does not have to be complicated. Stick by these, no matter what, to achieve the best version of your skin.
Never Sleep With Makeup On
Enough said.
Double Cleanse to Remove Makeup
As an extension to the above point, it is necessary to know how to effectively remove your makeup.
First, throw away the makeup wipes. Or repurpose them as hand wipes (we do not encourage wastage).
Double cleansing is the most effective way to make sure that all the makeup is off your face. It creates a clean canvas for your skincare to sink in better. This method of makeup removal involves two steps of cleansing. First, use micellar water or a balm/oil to melt the makeup. Second, use a cleanser to wash your face.
Do Not Use More than 2 Active Ingredients at a Time
Active ingredients are great, but using them too much or too frequently does more harm than good. It irritates the skin and disrupts the natural skin barrier.
Use actives that target a certain skin concern. Although it is best to use only one active in your routine if you require more – make sure that the two actives do not clash. Instead, they should enhance each other’s performance. For example, antioxidants like Vitamin-C and Niacinamide speed up the process of skin brightening and texture smoothing.
Look for Skin Hydrating & Soothing Ingredients
Hydrated skin is not happy skin.
Hydrated and calm skin is happy skin.
As you incorporate more skincare products into your routine or minimize them, make sure that you use ones that have skin-friendly ingredients like hyaluronic acid, urea, aloe vera, allantoin, etc. Even if you’re using active ingredients, find them in formulations that have such soothing ingredients.
Just in case you don’t know what we mean by calm and soothed skin – it is skin that is free from redness, irritation, and itching.
Apply Skincare on Damp Skin
Disclaimer: Do Not use chemical exfoliators, retinol/retinoids, acne treatment, and cleansing balms/oils on damp skin.
All other skincare products, especially serums and moisturizers, should be applied on damp skin to increase absorbency and efficacy.
Stop Using Physical Exfoliators
Do we need to repeat that apricot scrubs are harmful to your skin and that they’ll leave small cuts and tears?
Treat the Neck Too
The neck is an extension of your face. Hence, whatever skincare you apply on your face, should go down to the neck as well if you do not want your neck to age faster than your face.
Sometimes, Less is More
Simplify your skincare.
Use only what is necessary to treat your concerns. Do not incorporate products in your skincare based on blind buys or foreign recommendations. Know what works for you and stick to it.
Lastly, give your skin frequent breaks too. Sometimes, the best skincare is to just wash your face, apply sunscreen, and moisturize.
Now that you know the Golden Rules of skincare, we can’t wait to watch your skin thrive!
