Like It Or Not — Low-Rise Jeans Are Trending! Here’s How To Wear Them Gracefully
Millennials, I hear you — high-rise jeans are the best thing that has ever happened to us. They are incredibly comfortable, tuck in our tummies, and help us feel more confident in cropped shirts. However, we can’t deny it anymore — low-rise jeans are here to stay. And all of the Gen Z-ers are looking at us with judgment in their eyes whenever they see us in our high waist skinny jeans and Adidas Superstar shoes. So if you’re like me and you still haven’t hopped on the trend yourself, but you’re looking for ways to do it gracefully, here are some of my favorite tips on how to wear low-rise jeans.
Don’t go too low
The number one rule when it comes to picking out a pair of low-waist jeans — don’t go too low! You don’t want your jeans to be so low that they become uncomfortable and unflattering. A good rule of thumb is to find jeans that sit just below your belly button. This will give you the trendy low-rise look, without being uncomfortable or exposing things you don’t want exposed. When buying any kind of jeans, always make sure you can move comfortably in them without feeling self-conscious. But that’s especially important when picking out a pair of low-waist jeans.
Let the early 00s inspire you
The early 2000s was the peak era for low-rise jeans, so why not take some inspiration from that time? Look back at old photos and see what styles were popular back then. Some early 00s trends that still work well with low-rise jeans include crop tops, spaghetti strap tank tops, and tube tops. These tops were designed to be worn with low-rise jeans and can help you pull off the look effortlessly. Layering is also a trend that was popular during that time. A cardigan over a spaghetti strap tank top or a denim jacket on top of a crop top can complete the look.
Combine old and new
If you’re not feeling the nostalgic vibes, you can style your low-waist jeans by combining old and new styles. For example, you could pair your low-rise jeans with a vintage band tee or a denim jacket. Top it all off with a trendy pair of New Balance shoes, and a cropped faux leather jacket. There are endless other options available. For example, pairing low-waist jeans with a corset top, or a nude body suit. It will feel a lot less intimidating once you combine other fashion elements that you feel a lot more comfortable in.
Accessories are the perfect way to add some flair to your low-rise jeans outfit. However, it’s important to keep it simple, especially if your jeans have a lot of embellishments or details. A simple belt can help define your waist and accentuate your curves. It can also break up the look and give your outfit some dimension. When it comes to jewelry, keep it minimalistic. A delicate necklace or a pair of statement earrings can complete the outfit without overpowering it.
