5 Ways to Incorporate Fitness Into Your Busy Schedule

Let’s be realistic, it’s difficult to find the time to exercise in today’s day and age. Between long days at work, social gatherings, and sleeping, there isn’t too much time left. However, you probably also know how important it is to get in some physical activity. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to incorporate fitness into a busy schedule. Here are some low-maintenance examples that can help you stay active no matter how little time you have.

Make Your Commute More Active

You probably spend a good deal of time each day traveling to work if you’re like most people. Try to make your commute more active rather than sitting in traffic or on public transportation. Consider biking or walking as an alternative to driving if you live close enough to your job. If you have to take the bus or train, get off a few stops early and continue walking. Over time, even small changes, like using the stairs instead of the elevator, can add up.

Use Your Lunch Break

What better time is there to get in some exercise than during your lunch break? I’m not saying that you have to go out and do some high-intensity weight-lifting. Instead, just go outside and get some steps in. You will feel a lot better once you get back to your job, and you also won’t have to worry about getting some additional fitness activities in later.

HIIT Workouts

HIIT or High-intensity interval training is the ideal workout for anyone who doesn’t have much time but wants to burn a lot of calories and get their body moving. These types of workouts last between 20 and 30 minutes, and they involve alternating periods of high-intensity workouts and periods of rest. You can do these workouts pretty much anywhere — at the gym, your home, or even outside. There are plenty of videos available online that you can watch for free. You can also buy special fitness programs, or sign up for a HIIT program at your local gym.

Make Fitness a Social Activity

Who says that you have to exercise alone? Workouts or activities such as hiking, biking, swimming, or simply walking can be a great way to catch up with your friends and family. You will have fun, and get fit at the same time. Another great way to do this is to sign up for fitness classes with your friends. You will keep each other motivated, and your time will be much better spent than if you decide to go for drinks or dinner.

Create Fitness Habits

Remember – consistency is key. So no matter what option you choose, make sure you stick to it. That’s why it’s so important to make a habit out of these activities. You can start small, by just walking for 15 minutes each day. It’s still better than nothing and you will get some additional steps in. You can gradually increase the amount over time once you feel more comfortable with it. But just make sure you don’t give up on your new habits just because you don’t see results right away.
