I use to cringe so badly whenever I would even think about saying positive affirmations while looking in the mirror. I thought it was embarrassing, cringy, and pointless.
However, after a really difficult period in my life, I decided that I had nothing to lose. Even JLo is doing it while doing her skincare routine, so how bad can it be? If a few positive words said out can have even the slightest positive impact on my mood and mental state, it’s worth it.
It was pretty difficult for me to come up with any positive affirmations by myself, so I relied on YouTube and guided affirmations videos. At first, it felt unnatural and uncomfortable to say out loud things like “I’m perfect inside and out”, however, after you said it a few times in a row, it really can impact the way you feel about yourself.
If you are currently looking for ways to incorporate positive affirmations into your beauty routine — let me just tell you, it’s totally worth it. And this comes from a skeptic. Here are the easiest way to do it.
I don’t know about you, but my nighttime skincare routine takes forever. At least 10 to 15 minutes. Which is ideal for some positive affirmations. Because I like to turn my brain off while I’m doing it, I prefer to listen to guided positive affirmation videos and just repeat the sentences that I hear. Most of them also have calming and relaxing music in the background, which is perfect for unwinding after a stressful day.
You can find plenty of affirmation videos on both YouTube and Spotify, however, if you want a more personal touch to it, you can even easily make your own voice recording of affirmations such as “I’m thankful for my glowing and clear skin” or “Every day my skin is getting smoother and clearer”. It will be easier to repeat them, and you can actually focus on the steps in your skincare routine.
When it comes to makeup, it’s so easy to add a few positive affirmations to every step of your makeup routine. This is such a simple but effective way to boost your confidence before you go out to take on the day. I like to do specific affirmations based on what part of my makeup routine I am doing.
For example, if I’m doing my eyes, I will say things such as “I’m thankful for my bright and beautiful eyes that are full of love”. It doesn’t always have to be that deep, you can also include positive affirmations such as “My lips are plump and juicy” or “My eyelashes are long and perfectly curled”. Small things like that can have a huge impact on the way you will feel once you get out of your home and take on the day.
I’m not saying that these affirmations work like magic and that you will feel like a completely new person in just a few days. However, even scientists have proven that positive affirmations do work. Positive affirmations help activate parts of the brain that are associated with self-related processing and reward. So, why not take advantage of that and include a few of them while you are doing your skincare, makeup, hair, or nails?
