Happy Scalp, Happy Life: Why You Should Prioritize The Health Of Your Scalp

Who doesn’t want long, full, and healthy hair? However, you can invest in as many hair treatments as you want, but if your scalp isn’t healthy, the chances of your hair being at its full potential are slim to none. A lot of us neglect our scalps. We ignore symptoms such as itchiness, redness, flaking, or pain. However, how do you expect healthy hair to grow from an unhealthy scalp?

Our scalps are like the soil of a farm. If you want strong and full hair, you have to make sure that it has an equally good base. Conditions such as seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, or dandruff are linked to breakage, alopecia, and reduced shine.

Small changes in our hair care routine can help our scalps get rid of dead skin cells, build-up, or sebum. When your scalp is balanced and healthy, your hair will feel and look much better as well. So here are some easy tips to improve the health of your scalp.

1. Use a scalp brush

The easiest and most cost-effective way to improve the health of your scalp is to invest in a scalp brush. You can find them on Amazon for a really affordable price. Make sure that you opt for a silicone brush with soft and flexible bristles.

These brushes don’t only exfoliate your scalp, but they will also massage it in the meantime. That will help you get rid of dead skin cells, but also increase the circulation in your scalp. Increased circulation can also improve the rate at which your hair grows. In addition to all that, they also feel very relaxing and help you de-stress.

2. Apply a scalp treatment

There are plenty of different scalp treatments available on the market. From scalp serums, peelings, or masks. While these treatments shouldn’t be a part of your daily hair care routine, they are still a great thing to incorporate once every 7 to 14 days.

Choose a treatment according to your needs. Do you have an oily scalp and you are also looking for some exfoliation? Then opt for a salicylic acid treatment. If you suffer from hair loss and you want to work on the density of your hair, choose peptide-based treatments that will bring back some fullness to your mane.

3. Don’t over-wash

Are you washing your hair even when it isn’t noticeably dirty? Frequent washing can dry out your scalp which could lead to dandruff, breakage, and loss of fullness. While you shouldn’t go too long between washes either, try to stretch it out to at least every two or three days.

4. See a dermatologist

If you have a serious scalp condition, then over-the-counter products most likely won’t be good enough for you. If you have the option, visit a dermatologist. This is especially important if you have conditions such as psoriasis or seborrheic dermatitis. These conditions require special treatments that you can only get from a professional.
