TikTok makeup trends have been ruling the beauty community all throughout 2022. And it seems as if it will be the same in 2023 as well. While last year was all about the “Clean Girl” look, in 2023, we are all collectively entering our “Soft Girl” eras. But what is the “Soft Girl” look like?

In actuality, the soft and clean girl looks are pretty similar. It’s all about minimal makeup, enhanced with some small details. However, the “Soft Girl” look is a lot more feminine and playful. You can play with things such as fake eyelashes, eye glitter, and sparkling eyeshadow.

While we are going to focus on the makeup look, you should understand that this is much more than just a makeup trend. Instead, the term “Soft Girl” is used to describe a whole aesthetic. That also includes your hairstyle, outfit, fragrance, and nails. However, just like with any other trend, you are free to mix and match any aspects of this look that fit your personal aesthetic the best.

How to get the makeup look  

Before you start putting on any makeup, make sure you took the time to prepare your skin. To get that dewy, natural-looking facial makeup, your skin has to be moisturized. Apply hydrating products such as vitamin C serums and sunscreens instead of a makeup primer. 

Instead of a full-coverage matte foundation, opt for a light skin tint. Blend it in with your makeup sponge, and follow it up with a light layer of concealer underneath your eyes. If your skin is oily, apply a light layer of powder to your T-zone. 

To create a more natural look, choose cream products such as cream bronzers, blushes, and highlighters. You can also apply these products underneath your skin tint so that the finished look looks as natural as possible. 

After your base is done, it’s time to focus on the details. Brush your brows upwards with a brow gel, and fill in any sparse spots with a brow pencil. Instead of lipstick, go for a pinkish lip gloss to give you that soft feminine look.

When it comes to eye makeup, you can be a bit more creative. Instead of sharp eyeliner which was a staple of last year’s makeup trends, this trend focuses on a more romantic look. You can play with colorful eyeshadows, such as pale pink or lavender, or add some shimmering shadows to your eyelids.

The “Soft Girl” aesthetic 

As I have already explained, this aesthetic is all about being girly. But not girly in a Barbiecore way. It’s about colors such as baby pink, lavender, cream, and gold. Instead of gold jewelry that was on trend for the “Clean Girl” look, opt for pearl earrings and necklaces. 

Cute and nostalgic prints are a must as well. Tennis skirts, platform sneakers, cashmere cardigans, and floral dresses are just some of the clothing staples. Besides pearls, you can accessorize your look with details such as scrunchies, claw clips, and headbands. Keep your nails longer, with french tips, or in pretty pastel colors.
