How To Bring Your Damaged Hair Back To Life After Summer Vacation

We have all been there… You come back from your summer vacation feeling relaxed, full of energy, and like you are ready to take on the world. But the moment you take a closer look at your hair, you realize that it does not feel the same way as you do. All of the UV exposure, salt, chlorine, and heat take a toll on our manes, and we are often left with hair that is dry, frizzy, and prone to breakage. However, that does not mean that you have to chop it all off! We made a list of recommendations on how you can bring your damaged hair back to life after coming home from summer vacation.

Oil treatments

The easiest and most cost-effective way to restore your hair after all of that summer damage is to do weekly oil treatments. Cover your hair completely in oils such as coconut oil, jojoba oil, olive oil, and argan oil. You can even use a mixture of a few different oils. Then let it sink in for at least a couple of hours. Ideally, you could also put a shower cap on top of it and leave the oils on overnight. Coconut oil is especially beneficial for damaged hair as it prevents protein loss from hair fibers.

Deep hydration masks

For the next couple of washes, instead of your usual conditioner, apply a deep hydration hair mask. This will nourish your hair to the next level and give it the additional TLC that it needs. Look for ingredients such as argan oil, shea butter, cyclomethicone, honey, and glycerin. These will smooth out your hair fibers while also restoring the elasticity of your hair. And if you want to, you can use your regular conditioner afterward to fully lock in the hydration.

Bond repair hair treatments

Bond repair isn’t something only people who bleach their hair benefit from. If your hair is damaged from heat, UV exposure, brushing, or chlorine, a good quality bond repairing hair treatment can help you reverse the damage. No, it won’t mend together your split ends. But it will strengthen your hair fibers and make your hair less likely to breakage. You don’t have to do these treatments too often, especially if your hair is generally healthy. But your hair could definitely benefit from it after being exposed to so much damage during your vacation.

Avoid heat styling for a while

While your hair is dry, fragile, and prone to breakage, the worst thing you could do is additionally put stress on it with heat styling tools. Try to completely cut them off for at least a couple of weeks after you come home. In the meantime, you can try out some heatless curls, low buns, or other hairstyles that will protect your hair and not additionally damage it. If you, for some reason, just can’t imagine a life without heat-styling tools, go for a blow-drying brush. It doesn’t get as hot as a flat iron or curling wand, but it will still give some shape to your hair.
