The clean girl aesthetic took over all aspects of beauty. And it seems as if this trend is here to stay. We read about it everywhere. Clean girl outfits, clean girl hairstyles, clean girl fragrances, and finally, clean girl makeup. The clean girl aesthetic is all about simplicity, neutrals, elegance, and a no-makeup-makeup-look. Lately, trends in the beauty industry have shifted, and we no longer see heavy contouring, matte lipsticks, and dark smokey-eye looks. Instead, a natural and dewy look is the way to go.
But if you are a young millennial like me, and you learned about makeup on YouTube, you might not be too sure how to achieve the clean girl look. Don’t worry, it’s not nearly as difficult as creating a cut-crease. And remember how we proudly learned that back in 2015. It’s all about looking natural and radiant while still enhancing your best features.
This makeup look is mainly focused on the skin. You will have to leave your matte foundations and baking powders behind, and choose a BB cream or tinted moisturizer. The goal is to even out your skin tone, but not fully cover all of your imperfections. It’s okay if your sunspots and freckles are still peeking through.
Now, you can add a thin layer of powder, but only on your T-zone. You want your skin to remain dewy. Skip your contouring powder, but apply blush generously. If it doesn’t look like you stayed too long in the sun, it’s not enough blush. To truly get the dewy finish you desire, rather choose a cream blush and highlighter. They will give you a more natural finish, and you can even blend them out with your fingers.
You can fully skip eyeshadow for this look, and just apply a little bit of blush in your crease, also add a tiny bit of highlighter in the inner corners of your eyes. Curl your lashes, and apply mascara. Because this makeup look is all about looking natural, instead of black mascara, try out one that is brown in color. This will still enhance your eyelashes, but it will look much more effortless.
Finally, the fade-brow trend has died, and we can keep our brows natural. Just use a clear brow gel to brush them up, and if you need to, a thin brow pencil to fill in your brows additionally. Fill them in using light strokes and creating thin, hair-like lines.
Matte liquid lipsticks are now a thing of the past. For this look, you want a lip liner that is one shade darker than your natural lip color, and a volumizing lip gloss. Use the lip liner to slightly overline your lips around your cupid’s bow, while following your natural lip line around the other parts of your lips. Blend your lip liner in so that it doesn’t look too overdone, and top everything off with a little bit of lipgloss. And et voilà, you are now a clean girl yourself.
